Sometimes we lose track of the people and places that are important to us.  We move away from our children or our extended families and we no longer involve ourselves with the everyday happenings in their lives.  At times that can offer a bit of relief, but more often than not, we miss them and the opportunity to share our thoughts and Sunday dinners. We miss the people and the events that bring value and meaning to us.  So what about God? What happens when we’ve let a lot of life and a lot of time go by, but have forgotten our connection to the One who knows us better than anyone else ever could?

We might imagine a conversation like this.  “Hello, God.  I know I’ve been out of touch with you for a while.  Do you remember me?”

God’s immediate response is:  “Remember YOU? Of course, I’ve been missing you so much.  I have lots to share with you.  You’re one of my favorite people!”

If you felt pretty sure that God would respond to you like that, would you make more of an effort to seek His face? If you had parted ways with your best friend a long time ago, would you embrace them again if you thought they would receive you with love?  You may recall how Jacob and Esau made a mess out of their connection as brothers, and after a lot of time went by, they made a plan to meet again. Jacob was nervous, Esau was excited.  Jacob was ready to do a lot of  apologizing for his crazy actions.  Esau was ready to forgive with a hug.  Your old friend may not have the willingness to return and your sibling may not be ready for an embrace, but your Heavenly Father is.  He never went away. In fact, he never was mad at you.  He’s just been loving you from a distance.

As it says in the Message version of Psalm 139, “Is there anyplace I can go to avoid your Spirit? To be out of your sight? If I climb to the sky, you’re there! If I go underground, you’re there! If I flew on morning’s wings to the far western horizon, You’d find me in a minute–you’re already there waiting!”

This is a new day.  You’re a new you with every sunrise.  You’re the son or the daughter of the One who not only designed you, but loves you unconditionally, a love that will never leave you.

Say a cheery “Good Morning” to God!  He remembers everything about you and thinks you’re fabulous!
