Thought I’d share an amended excerpt from my new book of Prayers that will come out in 2013.

There are three things that amaze me—no, four things I do not understand: how an eagle glides through the sky, how a snake slithers on a rock, how a ship navigates the ocean, how a man loves a woman.

Proverbs 30: 18-19

The way you see life will largely determine what you get out of it.

Zig Ziglar

Lord, I guess the author of Proverbs would be awed by our current culture with the things we already take for granted, like rockets to the moon, cell phones that connect us instantly to people across the globe, and the Internet.  No doubt these would all have been amazing things.  How a man loves a woman or how real love actually finds a place in the heart of human beings is certainly still an amazing thing. In fact, real love may yet be one of the most amazing things ever.  Perhaps it is one of the very reasons why we are so in awe of You.

You have provided us with no end of opportunities to be awed by your work.  If we witness the power of a waterfall or the tenderness of baby kittens just waking up to life, or we hear the kindness in the words of a stranger, or see the acts of charity from one neighbor to another, we can still be amazed.  We witness the determination of those who have been beaten down by life, and their willingness to get off of their wounded knees, shake themselves off, and try again, and we’re awed.  We see genuine joy in the faces of people in poverty and gifts of charity from those who can help in a crisis, and our hearts swell with gratitude.  We have so many reasons to be in awe every day.

Help us to see life and respect it for all that it offers.  Help us to be awed at what you have provided for us, the people you have put in our lives to walk with us along the way, and the work you have given us to do so we have reasons to get up in the morning.  I ask for you love, your mercy and your guidance as well for all who seek your ways for these are things that truly amaze me.  Amen

Give thanks to the God of heaven, His love endures forever.

Psalm 136: 26

Wherever you are today, take just a moment to be awed by something precious God has given you.  Chances are your list will go on for some time.
