I thought since I call my web blog Turning Up the Light, I should give you some insight about what that means to me.

What better time than the Christmas season to remind ourselves what it truly means that the Light of the World has come!  This year, I was struck by a phrase in John 1, where the Scripture says,

“In the beginning was the one who is called the Word. The Word was God and was truly God. From the very beginning the Word was with God.  And with this Word, God created all things. Nothing was made without the Word. Everything that was created received its LIFE from him, and HIS LIFE gave LIGHT to everyone.  The light keeps shining in the dark, and darkness has never put it out.”

We could probably discuss this one passage for some time, and since I won’t pretend to be a Bible scholar, I will simply share what I get from this reading.  For me, this is an amazing truth to realize that the light truly did come into the world from the LIFE of Christ.  It is something like the relationship of the Sun and the Moon.  The Moon has no light of its own.  It can only reflect the sun and as we see it in the night sky, it sometimes is an amazing and glorious reflection.  The same is true for you and for me.  We have no light of our own.  We can only reflect the Son and sometimes we do it so well, we actually glow.  His life gave us the light He wants us to share at Christmastime and all through the year.

You are the light any time you reflect Him.  Any time you choose to love your neighbor, help a friend, forgive someone, or simply share your heart, the light shines.  Any time you choose to overcome fear and trust with all your heart in the Living Creator of this Universe, your light shines through the darkness.Full Moon

This Christmas, let’s all turn up the Light.  Let’s make the darkness shrink back and be blinded by our radiance.  Let’s be an awesome reflection of the One who loves us so and is our gift each day.

Whatever you do today, keep the light on and you’ll find hope and peace everywhere you turn!

I have heard this from others in the Church that the light of the Lord shines upon us and reflects out into the world the way the Sun and Moon work together. I think you are quite right about this. Also, it is said that when Jesus comes again to establish God’s Kingdom here on Earth, His light will be so bright and shining and reflect off of all the saints that there will be no need for any other light, the light will always and forever shine, and there will be no darkness ever again. I love the Gospel of John because his gospel tells us so much about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Hope you and your family have a blessed Christmas and thank you for sharing these wonderful posts. Keith Bachman
