Hello 2026! I love the beginning of a new year! It’s when I reach into my heart and soul and declare every good thing I hope to accomplish. It’s when I take an honest inventory and determine those things I should give up because they don’t work well for me anyway. It’s truly the opportunity to do some cleansing and reorganizing and even some strength training. After all, we want to start out well, with gusto and enthusiasm and try to do things right. So we make some new plans, set some new agendas, and trust that with God’s help we will have a great year. We shout “Happy New Year” with the best of them because we really hope good things will happen. Great! So, how can we stick with our intentions and stay strong?

Lamentations, which is not always the most positive book of scripture, offers this idea in verse 3:22. It says, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Wow! Imagine that. We can not only start again each new year, but we can actually start again with each new day because God has compassion on us and gives us a new opportunity, a new promise to succeed every single morning. That means you can stop looking back to see what needs fixing, stop wondering what happened to your old dreams and goals, and wake up every day ready to take on the world because you are getting a new chance to shine. 

Of course, some of us aren’t sure we want to try new things. We’re happy enough with the old things, with our old issues and troubles. We know how to deal with those. We accept them. The question is if God loves you so much He wants to give you new chances to grow and become all you were meant to be, then picking up your old baggage doesn’t make much sense. It’s a new year and you are equipped to change things, to make a difference, to achieve the desires of your heart. 

It’s true you can’t do any of that on your own. You can’t do it if you don’t acknowledge God is there. He loves you and He wants to give you a new heart and a new spirit every morning. You can’t do it if you shut the door of faith and simply walk out into the world with nothing but human armor and intellect. The fact is you already know those things don’t sustain you. Those things may get you started but somewhere along the way they will fail you. Now in 2026, you can count on the compassion of God to help you no matter what comes your way. All you have to do is let go of what was and embrace what can be. Pick up the mantle of faith and possibility. God is faithful and wants you to win. Give Him a chance to show you what’s ahead because He goes before you every day.

Let this be the year when you anticipate and embrace every good thing God has for you.
