Thought I’d share a piece from my upcoming book to be published later this year, called God’s Got This! Hope you like it.
My Words: Lord, worry is taking over my life. Please help me.
God’s Word: Do not worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks. Philippians 4:5-6, NCV
It sounds easy, doesn’t it? Friends lovingly tell you, “Don’t worry.” God lovingly tells you, “Don’t worry.” Yet here you are running a worry marathon and it looks like you’re winning. Let’s look at what you’ve won.
With worry, you get weariness. You can imagine sleeping much of the day, because of course, you’re up at night. Worrying is best at night.
Worrying gives you something to do. Indeed, you can do it for every moment of the day. Of course, it’s a rocking horse. You can rock and rock, but you won’t get anywhere, but that’s another story.
You can tell yourself God is too busy to help you anyway, so what else can you do, but worry? Yes, worry gives you excuses, confusion, and gets in the way of trying to pray.
Worry occupies a place in your mind and is tenacious. It holds on to your thoughts no matter what else you’re doing. Worry is so strong. Of course, it weakens your body, mind, and soul, but it’s holding on. It runs on ahead of you.
So, maybe worry seems like a good idea, but when God says, “Do not worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need,” it’s because only God can do anything about your troubles. Only God can give you His peace as you pray. Only God can help your situation. Try God and replace worry with something that really helps. No need to keep running through the worry weeds. They’ll trip you up every time.
God’s Got This
Let God renew your mind and strengthen you with His peace and love today.
