Love matters! What kind of love? Every kind! When your heart is open to all that God would have you become, then love is your world view, your faith view, and your life view. It is the place where you start and the perspective that drives everything you do. That familiar scripture from 1 Corinthians 13:1-2 says, “If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate.”

Time to get out the WD-40. You don’t want anything about you to squeak like a rusty gate. In fact, this thing called love never has to rust out, wear out, or even get used up. It just has to be used well, over and over again. So if you find yourself falling a bit short of the mark, missing the target that keeps its eye on love, then do this. Start with yourself and give yourself a little love. Go ahead! Smile, remind yourself how precious you are in the sight of God and in the hearts and minds of those who hold you dear. Then reflect on a few friends who have unconditional love for you. They always see your best side, and when they don’t, they give you grace and mercy because they know you’re better than that.

It’s a heart of love that keeps the world turning, blessing those who embrace kindness and humility. Think about the people who live to make the world a better place. These are people who are just like you. They are the Good Samaritans, the missionaries, the inventers, the book writers, the preachers, and teachers…all those who strive to motivate the best in others and help them succeed. Henry Drummond wrote, “You will find, as you look back upon your life, that the moments when you really lived are the moments when you have done things in the spirit of love.”

Look forward then with a heart and mind that cannot be defeated by the dark clouds of misery that prevail on social media and current newsfeeds. Trust in the One who radiates His love through you every place you go. You are the evidence of God’s love in the world today. You are the spirit of all that brings light to others.

I nominate you to be the poster child for this thing called love!
