Have you ever had an idea that people around you simply thought was crazy? They looked at you with bewildered faces, wondering what you could be thinking. They tried to talk you out of the idea because it simply made no sense to them. They may have actually convinced you for a time that your idea might in fact, be crazy. I’ve often worked in creative environments that actually thrived on crazy ideas. They knew that for every crazy idea, something incredible might just happen. We know this is true because we live in a world of technology today that a very short time ago would have had people shaking their heads, determined that those ideas would never catch on. After all, who needs a personal computer in their home?

I offer a thought about crazy ideas, because I think that for some people, faith, especially faith in a Savior like Jesus probably sounds like a crazy idea. Even when Jesus was on earth, people around Him were shaking their heads, trying to understand how He could do some of the amazing things He did. How did He raise a man who had been dead for several days and bring him back to life? How did He feed over 5000 people with a couple of fish and some bread? You and I couldn’t imagine feeding that many people with a well-stocked cupboard. So what is it that takes the stories of Jesus out of the pages of history and brings them into the present, into the place where no technology can go?

Sometimes a crazy idea seems too simple. After all, there must be more that I have to do for my salvation besides just believing in who Jesus is. After all, I’ve hardly been a perfect person. So, what else? I mean do you think that the Creator of everything, the One who designed universes that we can’t even imagine, looked over at human beings and said, “Wow! They are a mess! I need a way to get their attention so they remember I love them. I need a way to get them to see me and all that I have planned for them? What can I do?” No doubt, the heavenly team went to work coming up with a plan. It seemed simple, even crazy at first. They would send a baby who would grow up to teach them about God’s love, and then become the one sacrifice needed to get them all back into heaven. Yes, they would send Jesus! It was the perfect plan.

Of course, whether the plan works or not depends on you now. You have to decide whether Jesus is a crazy idea! You have to decide if you want to take the risk of missing the simple way back to heaven. Jesus declared He was the way back to the One who started everything and will one day end the story, at least this part of the story. It’s a crazy idea, but if you want to make your soul do a happy dance, it’s worth your consideration. Many people say “No” to crazy ideas because they want everything to make sense to them. A lot of people thought a personal computer didn’t make sense either. Not sayin’, just sayin’.

Personally, I always think God’s ideas are better than mine!
