Isaiah 49:6 gives every living soul a purpose, a reason for being. It says, “Hence, I will also appoint you as light to the nations so that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”
Coming into the light and being the light are biblical themes that illuminate the truth of what God designed each of us to be. It all started when God spoke those amazing words, “Let there be light.” He not only brought light to the planet, but He helped us understand how to navigate the darkness. He helped us see everything that He had created so we could spend our lives telling His amazing stories. Light is an intentional metaphor that guides our steps and gives meaning to everything we do.
So, what happens on those days that you simply hide your light under a bushel, or maybe just ignore the light altogether? Some days, it seems easier to stay in the shadows and step aside from the path. After all, we get along just fine on our own and we’ve been taught since childhood that it’s important to be independent and find our way in the world. That stubborn independence serves you well at times, and it’s a valuable asset, but it isn’t everything. It isolates your soul, hides your purpose, and keeps you from trusting that God is with you wherever you may be.
You were born to become an ambassador of the light of Christ. That’s your job, your calling, no matter what else you do for a living. You were given a flame to ignite the spirits of others and help them recognize God’s love. You may be the only source of divine light that some people will ever know so that makes your light extremely important.
You are the light! You are the one who helps others find hope and blessing. Don’t hide your light today!
