Even if you’re a prayer person, there are days when you simply run out of steam. You’ve already prayed numerous times, and so far, you can’t see that prayer has made much of a difference. You might even imagine you’ve finally hit on something too hard for God to deal with, or maybe He’s just too busy for you, or worse yet, maybe He just isn’t listening. In our humanness, it is easy to come up with ideas about why prayer is not working. If you’ve been there and gotten past it, you know what I mean. If you are there now, let’s take another look at why prayer is the most important thing you can ever do.
Let’s define what prayer is. Here’s one definition. Prayer is the portal, the gate, the window, through which you can open a conversation with God any time at all. It’s that moment when you tune in to God’s frequency and you call on His name. You ask Him to draw near to you because whatever you’re going through is bigger than you are, and it requires His immediate attention. You acknowledge that God has the power, the strength, and the ability to do anything that needs to happen. You pray because you need help from the one source who can make a difference.
So, the key is to open the door, with your heart filled with faith and your arms open wide. As soon as you show up, God shows up. We’re not talking about little popcorn prayers you might say quickly during the day. Those are good, but this is better. This is the honest prayer of your heart and mind and soul because you are ready to surrender and let God take over. You will step through the portal and into the world where God reigns and you are grateful to be there.
You don’t have to show up with words to influence God. You don’t have to sweet talk God into listening. In fact, you simply have to arrive with a humble heart ready to hear whatever God has to say. You have to lean in and check your ego at the door. You’re connecting to the only force that can do impossible things.
If you think you’ve already said everything that can be said, or you think you haven’t got a prayer, then maybe, it’s time to think again. It’s time to pray again. God is with you, and He wants to help you.
Pray! Pray without ceasing. Pray with your whole heart. Pray as though God is holding you in His arms, ready to do anything and everything to bring you peace.
In fact, I will pray with you!
