Even though this question could bring up a rather negative memory from your childhood, it poses a thought that is worth considering. The older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve come to realize that who you think you are, actually is very important to helping you navigate life. Who you think you are often defines your life purpose and your actions. Some of us can generate self-confidence to do the things we’re good at. We can teach others, or write, or lead organizations because in that one arena we’ve come to terms with who we think we are.

It seems to me that the problem with human beings is not that we think too highly of ourselves, though there are those who certainly lean in that direction, but that we think too little of ourselves. When we imagine that we’re less than we hoped we might be, or when we assume others do not find us capable or valuable, we can miss out on what life really has to offer. More than that, we miss out on what God absolutely wants for us. God wants us to always remember who we are. He wants us to know without any doubt that we are valued, loved, important to the max, because we belong to Him. We are part of His family, and you can’t get closer to royalty than that. God wants us to be able to answer this question with an enthusiastic response that says something like, “I’m Yours!”

Why is that realization a better way for us to think? It’s better because then we have some place to turn, when life is running amok. We can stop the world and invite God in because He is the Father of all of us, the Father who knows us, and the One who sees everything beautiful that we can be. In fact, He wants you to tell everyone who you are because He’s so proud of you.

So, if you ever heard this question as a kid and it made you cringe a bit, turn it around. You’re not a kid anymore. You’re a fully-grown beloved member of God’s family and He will never leave you. Sure, you might wander off, you might disappoint Him, because human beings always disappoint one another, but you won’t lose His love for you and His joy in helping you become even more special than you already are.

Who do you think you are? You are an awesome, totally loved child of God and it doesn’t get better than that. In fact, you’ve been together long enough now, you’re starting to look a bit more like Him. It’s great to see the family resemblance.

Blessings to you today!
