Thought I’d share a little poem I wrote about answering God’s call. I suspect I’ve responded like this more than once. Blessings to you today.

Send Someone Else

Now go! I will help you speak, and I will teach you what to say.”

But Moses said, “Please, Lord, send someone else.”

Exodus 4:12-13, NCV

What can I do?

What can I be?

What purpose, Lord,

Is there for me?

The things I’ve tried,

Just aren’t right,

But how I yearn

To be Your Light.

Lord, I want

With all my heart,

To bless the world

And do my part.

So count on me

Just as You please,

I’m begging, Lord–

I’m on my knees.

I’ll feed the hungry,

House the poor,

I’ll tell Your stories,

Door to door.

I’ll shine Your Light

And ring Your bell,

There’s no one

That I wouldn’t tell.

I’m ready, God,

Just name the place,

There’s nothing

That I wouldn’t face.

I won’t give up,

Until you call,

I don’t want anyone

To fall.

What is it, God?

What did You say?

You’ve got a job

For me today?

I’m listening!

I’m poised to run,

I’ll do whatever

Must be done!

You know I’m here

To do Your bidding–

But I’m guessing now…

You must be kidding.

You know I’m older,

Not as stable,

Slowing down,

Just not as able.

You couldn’t stop me

At my peak,

But now my knees

Are pretty weak.

My feet are weary

My eyes are dim,

And my days are packed

Up to the brim.

You know I’d do it

If I could,

But, next week, well…

Just isn’t good.

So just this once,

I ask Your grace,

For someone else

To take my place.

Try me again,

Cause it’d be sweet

To be your loving

Hands and feet.

Just let me know

What I can do,

To shine Your light–

I’m here for You.

In fact, don’t hesitate

To call,

Cause I’ll do anything

At all.

And if I can’t,

I’ve got a friend

Whom I would gladly

Recommend.

So glad we had

This little chat

And You know now

Right where I’m at.

No matter what,

You know it’s true,

Lord, I’d do anything

For You!
